Back in March during my NYC trip, I visited the Louis Vuitton store inside Saks 5th Avenue, and got greeted by Sebastien Diaz, an intelligent and charismatic client advisor (as states in his business card) who presented a fun and interesting bet (pretend fun, of course). If I could name the theme of this SS16 collection, I would win this amazing metallic dress below as prize.
After several attempts, from Madonna, to different medieval themed film titles among others, he gives us a lesson-voyage thru the incredible mind views of the brand´s creative director, the French Nicholas Guesquière. He replaced the wonderful designer Marc Jacobs in 2014, and has gained everyone´s attention with his highly creative mind.
In this collection, he mixes futuristic cartoons, such as Final Fantasy XIII depicting his vision with incredibly feminine dresses and strong metal fabrics among others. The creator also suggests the totally futuristic idea of the possibility to build new and independent cities. And the vision of using armours as personal protection in the venture to build such communities. A truly virtual idea, clearly influenced by the digital world.
All very creative and interesting, but the truly amazing thing to me was seeing and touching the pieces, one by one, and actually being able to see his creativity thru the fabrics and design. The pieces clearly showed this vision of virtual reality. Fabrics, such as this metal sleeve shown below, just by looking at it, it seemed heavy and hard, and as for the touch, it was delicate and malleable.

There is this gorgeous square cut dress, all chamois made, the kind of calfskin leather which looks very delicate and soft; to the touch, it was actually an armed, hard and heavy fabric. He truly demonstrated his idea of virtual reality – what appears to be – it is not. A magnificent show of interpretation and execution!
Today, the 2017 Resort Collection will be displayed at our beloved neighboring city called Niterói, at the Contemporary Art Museum designed by one of Brazil´s greatest icons, Oscar Niemeyer. Nicholas recently visited Brasília, Brazil´s capital, a city designed by Oscar certainly admiring and adding to his personal creative research mind-based-data-base.
I can’t wait to see the new collection hit the stores, and feel close to the touch, piece by piece, and understand how his creativity and emotion transform in fact, into a physical and real piece of clothing.
